Development & Fundraising Consultant – Middle East

Application deadline: 13/01/2020

The UK’s leading interfaith organisation is looking for a Development & Fundraising Consultant to help us grow our ground-breaking work in the Middle East.

For over 20 years, the Faith & Belief Forum has been at the forefront of creating innovative and meaningful interfaith encounters through our programmes in schools, community spaces and hospitals in both the UK and the Middle East.  We think that our work is needed now more than ever. Please join us and use your expertise to help us to grow and meet this need.

The Middle East branch of the Faith & Belief Forum, based in Jerusalem, runs a pioneering project for improved intercultural relations in the healthcare sector. In the divided and contested context of this region, hospitals and healthcare settings remain one of the few spaces where patients and staff – whether Jews, Israeli Arabs, Palestinians, Bedouins or Druze – interact and work side by side. It is not uncommon to observe Arab doctors treating Jewish patients, and vice versa. Within the context of the healthcare sector, where life and death decisions are made on a daily basis, the role of faith plays a critical role.

Each year we work with 200 participants (including hospital directors, heads of nursing schools, janitors and security guards, human resources professionals, neurologists, midwives, and social workers) within the Israeli healthcare system. Our workshops help participants build their interfaith and intercultural competencies leading to enhanced patient outcomes. Our work takes place in hospitals such as Rambam Hospital in Haifa, Ichilov in Tel Aviv, Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem, and Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon. We are now seeking to expand to hospitals in the wider region.

We are looking for a consultant to work with the Project Director and others to drive forward the next phase of development of this important project. Having established strong connections with 8 hospitals, we now need to generate the support required to sustain and further develop the work. This will require working from both London and Jerusalem to generate support, secure funds and support the strategic development of the project. The consultant will be an experienced fundraiser with knowledge of the region and a passion for interfaith and/or peacebuilding.

We are seeking to instruct a consultant from 1 February to 31 December 2020. The fee for this work is £16,500 inclusive of VAT and expenses.  Travel to Jerusalem will be covered by us.  Please note we expect the successful candidate to work around three days per week on this project.

The consultant will be required to invoice the Faith & Belief Forum for fees and will be responsible for their own tax and insurance and must have the right to work in the UK.

We are seeking a Consultant who…

  • Has experience of fundraising
  • Has knowledge of the region
  • Is fluent in English – Arabic and/or Hebrew highly desirable
  • Can travel to Jerusalem at least four times during the consultancy
  • Is a team player
  • Is a good communicator – verbally and on paper
  • Has experience of interfaith, social cohesion, peacebuilding, or a related field

This Consultant will…

  • Develop relationships with donors and write and submit funding proposals, creating a funding pipeline totaling in excess of £100,000
  • Secure £25,000 for the project, over and above current funding/funders
  • Provide regular reports and updates on project development to Faith & Belief Forum’s Leadership Team
  • Contribute to the development of project strategy, working with the project Director to communicate project goals, theory of change and impact.

Application information:

To apply, please submit the following on our website:

  • A biography or CV
  • Two references or testimonials from recent clients/work colleagues
  • A covering letter describing why you are suitable for this role
  • draft project plan outlining how you would go about achieving the deliverables within the 11 month time frame

The deadline is 9am, Monday 13 January 2020.  Shortlisted proposals will be notified by 14 January with interviews scheduled for later that week in our London office.

We are looking to fill this role as soon as possible.

Working with the Faith & Belief Forum:

We believe in order to effectively serve our beneficiaries; our work must be influenced by a broad range of voices. Therefore, we actively encourage applications from people who are currently underrepresented in the organisation. This would include BAME candidates and those who identify as Muslim, Sikh, Hindu, Buddhist and Jain. We celebrate difference and are committed to creating a working environment where everyone is included.
