Lived experiences of faith and belief in young people go far beyond the textbook. In today’s digitised, globalised, and multi-faith society, young people navigate complex identities while being exposed to political polarisation, international conflicts, and online discourse that challenge their sense of belonging.
How do we, as teachers, educators, and youth leaders, create a safe and courageous space for these vital conversations?
With the structural challenges facing Religious Education (RE) and an increasingly divided society—fractured along cultural, political, and identity lines—many of us working with young people hesitate to engage in discussions about faith and belief. Yet, avoiding these topics does a disservice to those deeply affected by events such as the UK summer riots, the conflict in the Middle East, and ongoing culture wars, all amplified through digital spaces.
In this interactive workshop, we’ll explore:
These resources offer practical tools for educators working with 15–18-year-olds, including:
⭐ Exercises to help young people investigate and celebrate their identities.
⭐ Strategies for asking questions that encourage deeper curiosity and understanding.
⭐ Lesson plans on how identity impacts belonging.
⭐ Historic and contemporary examples of positive interfaith interactions that build peaceful, thriving communities.
Join us to gain insights, tools, and confidence in fostering a more inclusive and informed generation.
