The ‘Female Voices’ programme is connecting women of different cultures, beliefs and ages to create change together.
A series of events across London, organised by 3FF’s Urban Dialogues programme, is bringing women from different backgrounds together for shared conversation, performance, music and food. The initiative recognises the power women have to effect change within their communities – as well as their ability to be bridge-builders across cultural and religious differences.
The first event is held on Thursday 11 September. Broadcaster Jumoké Fashola will chair a panel of artists, campaigners and activists discussing the topic: “Shutting up, putting up, speaking out: How are UK women challenging convention?” Guests include:
There will also be music and poetry by female performers including FLOetic Lara, Sona Jobarteh and Bumi Thomas.
Holly Jones, 3FF’s Urban Dialogues Manager: “There are not many female-only spaces like this where women from different faith and non-religious backgrounds come together to address issues that are important to them, and to celebrate the talents of other women. We’re particularly excited about involving women from minority communities who are often talked about in our public debates and media – but don’t always have opportunities to make their own voices heard.”
The event is part of the Navigation exhibition at Red Gallery (www.urbandialogues.org). Subsequent events in the series are organised together with partners JW3 and Rumi’s Cave. The Female Voices programme is supported by the Mayor of Camden, who has chosen 3FF as his charity of the year for 2014-15.

3FF, the Three Faiths Forum, works to break down barriers between people of different faiths and beliefs. It builds positive relations between communities and individuals at many levels of society: with teachers and students, artists and professionals, political leaders in parliament and upcoming leaders still at university.
3FF’s Urban Dialogues programme brings people from all cultures and walks of life together through the arts. It is based on the belief that the arts can transcend cultural boundaries, offering opportunities for people to connect across differences and build relationships and understanding.
