An online health and wellbeing festival organised by the Faith & Belief Forum and Maccabi GB has highlighted approaches from different faiths for people to look after themselves from home.  The Fitness, Faith & Feeling Good festival, which ran Monday 1 to Friday 5 February, was made up of free online activity sessions run by different partner organisations from across London’s faith communities.

The pandemic has thrown up many risks to our health, both physical and mental. The Fitness, Faith & Feeling Good festival featured videos of different approaches to building wellbeing ranging from dance workshops to yoga and meditation sessions.  There were also live online events including a Sport & Faith panel, which brought together experts in the field of sports and faith engagement.

Quotes from participants in the festival:

“This is something that we all need at the moment, some help looking after ourselves.  I have been needing some new challenges so this came at a perfect time.”

“I really enjoyed the activities and would like to do them again to explore how they can help me over time.”

“I thought the connection between wellbeing practices and religious practices was really interesting and it meant a lot to hear people explain the practices from their faith perspective.”

Content from the festival is free to access on the Faith & Belief Forum’s YouTube channel and Facebook page. The videos have been seen 10,000 times so far, and over 50,000 people were engaged on social media.

The festival featured activity videos from Saved to Serve Dance, Jamyang Buddhist Centre, Israeli Dance Institute, National Hindu Students’ Forum UK, and the Delicate Mind. The panel of experts included Ashley Lerner – Chief Executive of Maccabi GB, Yashmin Harun – Muslimah Sports Association, Matt Baker – Sports Chaplaincy UK, and Sam Sawhney – Motiv8 Sports and Fitness.

Notes for Editors

The Faith & Belief Forum is an interfaith charity which works towards a connected and supportive society where people of different faiths, beliefs and cultures have strong, productive and lasting relations.

Maccabi GB aims to support the long term future of British Jewry by engaging and developing the entire Jewish Community with a broad range of sporting, educational, social and health and wellbeing activities.

F&BF and Maccabi GB are working in partnership towards London’s first Interfaith Fun Run, which we hope will go ahead later this year.

This partnership has been made possible thanks to the generous support of Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London’s Council on Faith, and the Exilarch’s Foundation.
