The Faith & Belief Forum (F&BF) was involved in two recent multi-faith Iftars in Solihull and Birmingham that created opportunities for people from different faith and belief backgrounds to meet, eat together, and get to know each other.
The Solihull Masjid organised their first Interfaith Iftar on Saturday 15th April. Although a small cottage mosque, they set up a marquee outside in their courtyard not just for additional prayers in Ramadan but also for the interfaith Iftar.
An amazing set up where those present were joined by the leader of the Council, Cllr Ian Courts, as well as members of the council and local faith groups, particularly those who took part in the Solihull Faith Action Project. Ian courts partner was presented with a bouquet of flowers as a thank you gesture for attending the gathering.
The Solihull Iftar was the first of its type in the borough organised by the mosque and was made possible after the Solihull Faith Action Project F&BF delivered in the area.
As they ended the Iftar, the host Amjad Hussain said this is only the beginning, many more such gathering to come!
Birmingham’s Progressive Synagogue hosted a three faiths Iftar on Sunday 16th April. The interest was overwhelming for the organisers and tickets were sold out weeks before the event. F&BF helped run the event on the night.
The evening began by talks from leaders from each faith about the festivals celebrated at this time of year: Passover; Ramadan; and Easter and Lent. Guests heard about the refugee themes in each festival and heard from refugee-experienced speakers.
The Muslims prayed after sunset and that was followed by an amazing selection of vegetarian dishes the guests enjoyed thoroughly. Attendees left the event on a high after experiencing such a well-attended and inspiring event.
