Matthew Gold, Programmes Co-ordinator – Communities
At the Faith & Belief Forum, we are in constant contact with groups from across the UK, not least in London. This has been a tough year for communities to come together; there has been a lot of pain felt by so many different people when thinking or trying to talk about topics of race and faith in their schools, universities, workplaces and communities.
The landscape of interfaith relations is also shifting rapidly, with new events, initiatives and connections being launched every month to bring communities closer together. Yet, at the same time it feels a tumultuous period for all of us who work in the interfaith world, or simply just want to maintain good relationships with those around us, despite our differences.
We have decided then that something needs to happen to bring all this goodwill and dedication together. We want to deliver an Interfaith Wellbeing Festival in 2025 – and we want all of London’s communities to help shape it.
Shape the Festival – Complete the Consultation! We know different communities are in different places right now, therefore we’re launching this consultation work, to help us understand how you are feeling right now, what you’re ready for and what you would like to see happen.
We need to understand, as broadly as possible, how you’re doing. So we are gathering opinions on the current state of affairs and how you feel about being in the same space as people from different backgrounds, at events which acknowledge difference and celebrate it in some way.
This doesn’t mean necessarily having really difficult conversations just now, but we want to get the ball rolling to bring people closer together help form the start of some new, meaningful connections. Community relations might have been tense this last year – but despite the challenge, we saw Londoners show up for each other in multitudes when their communities came under threat over summer. We know the spirit for unity is there and we want to draw on that in the new year.
Our survey is going to ask about some attitudes towards events such as those, as well as how you feel about wellbeing specifically – that’s the theme of one such event we’d like to put on early next Summer.
Our research is going to help us be a thought leader across the interfaith world, but also to respond to the issues that are going on right now, so we can fill in wherever possible to help create a more connected and inclusive society.
If you help us out by telling us, as honestly as possible, how you feel about things going on at the moment, then we can respond in the most real and authentic way possible. If we have to guess, then we can’t be as effective. So, do help us out as much as you can by telling us what’s going on for you at the moment.
Fill out the consultation here to help us shape London’s first ever Interfaith Wellbeing Festival.
