ParliaMentors Alumni: Anya Fahlenkamp

London

Back in 2011, Berlin-born Anya Fahlenkamp was an undergraduate at SOAS studying for a degree in Politics. She said, “At the time, I was surrounded by people from all countries and various faith backgrounds. However, I was startled about the fact that there was no organised interfaith framework at the university that tried to bring it all together.” She signed up to ParliaMentors to develop the skills to create her own spaces for interfaith encounter.

In 2012 she launched the first Faiths In Tune festival. She said: “I wanted to create a space for interfaith dialogue including those who might be scared to actively participate in a verbal dialogue event because they fear they might not be educated or eloquent enough. Music makes us curious, music makes us empathise. It is a perfect ice-breaker and a wonderful facilitator of interfaith dialogue.”

In May 2017, she ran the sixth Faiths In Tune festival in London, and has also organised Faiths In Tune in New York and Berlin. They continue to bring people together across communities through the medium of music.
