Programmes Support Volunteer, Education & Learning Team

Purpose of role:

The Education and Learning Programmes Support Volunteer will support the Faith & Belief Forum’s Education and Learning(E&L) Team with a specific focus on the Schools Workshops Programme.  Encountering Faiths and Beliefs is F&BF‘s flagship workshop that brings real-life experiences of faith, belief and identity into the classroom via a panel of trained speakers. The role of the volunteer will be to provide administrative support to help with the smooth running of workshops as well as to provide support with developing an online video bank of speaker stories.

What will I be doing as a Programmes Support Volunteer?

The volunteer will provide support in the following areas:

Preparation for workshops

  • Setting up Zoom meetings for online workshops and supporting with workshop bookings.
  • Sending reminder emails to schools and speakers about workshops.
  • Processing workshop invoices and speaker expenses.

Supporting with developing an online bank of speaker stories.

  • Setting up meetings with speakers to record their stories.
  • Supporting with the recording, editing, subtitling and uploading of school speakers’ stories onto the F&BF website.


  • Keeping our database, Salesforce, up to date with our stakeholders’ information.
  • Involvement in the outreach, recruitment, training and induction of volunteer school speakers.
  • Supporting with research for funding bids.
  • Optional opportunity to assist with schools workshops and to train as a volunteer school speaker.
  • Supporting with new areas of E&L work as they arise e.g. researching new projects/workshops etc.
  • Occasionally supporting more broadly with pieces of work across the broader E&L Team (School Linking Programme, Online Resources Programme, Teacher Training)

Communicating the impact of our work:

  • Writing blogs about your experience of our work
  • Drafting tweets for our @FBFSchools Twitter account

What experience or skills will I need to do this role?


  • A positive, sensitive and inclusive approach.
  • Well organised and able to work independently with remote management.
  • Access to own computer and internet connection.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, ability to represent an organisation to a range of stakeholders by email and in person.
  • Excellent administrative skills with the ability to accurately record data and pay attention to detail.
  • Confident using mainstream IT software: Microsoft Office (Outlook/Word/Excel etc.), Zoom etc.


  • An interest in and passion for interfaith and intercultural dialogue.
  • IT skills: editing videos, Salesforce.
  • Experience working in an education setting.

What support will I be given?

Your key contact within your team will be Jaishree Patel, Education & Learning Programmes Officer.  They will set your goals with you, conduct regular check-ins, provide day-to-day support as needed, and give you feedback on your tasks.

On your first day you will given an Orientation Training by your key contact in your team who will induct you into the organisation.  As part of this induction you will:

  • be given an introduction to the Faith & Belief Forum, our vision, and work
  • be shown any IT systems you will be using and given login details you will need
  • have an opportunity to talk through the Volunteer Handbook
  • have the chance to ask any questions you have

During the first four weeks of volunteering, the volunteer and key contact will have weekly check-ins to talk through progress with tasks, questions and feedback.  After this period, the frequency of check-ins can be agreed.  In-person check-ins should take place at least once a month in a mutually convenient location.

Travel needed to complete your volunteering (up to £10 per week) and lunch expenses for the days you volunteer at the office (up to £5 per week) will be reimbursed, on completion of an expenses form with original receipts provided.

You will be invited to join a Facebook group of 180+ Faith & Belief Forum volunteers past and present; this network of people passionate about interfaith share interesting events and opportunities.

When and where will this role take place?

The role is a minimum of 7 hours per week and up to 14 hours per week depending on the volunteer’s preference.  When these hours are will be completed is to be agreed between the volunteer and their key contact during the induction period.

This role can be home-based, in F&BF’s Kentish Town office or a mixture of both (please note that the volunteer manager for this role works remotely with only occasional visits to the London office.)

This role is for an initial 3 month period with the option to extend longer term if mutually agreed. The role will begin in October 2021.

Communities Team Office Volunteer

Through this role you will contribute to the Faith & Belief Forum’s vital work with communities and workplaces by helping us prepare for, deliver, and evaluate our varied programme of events.
