Lucy presenting her research at Warwick University’s Centre for Education Studies Postgraduate Conference, May 2017

We’re thrilled to introduce Lucy Peacock as our new PhD researcher! Based at the Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations at Coventry University, Lucy’s spending the next couple of years working with our Faith School Linking Team. We caught up with Lucy to find out how the research is going.

What’s your research about?

I’m researching 3FFs Faith School Linking Programme to see how relationships are formed between young people of different faiths and no faith. I’ll be watching activities and asking people about their experiences, including teachers, students and parents. As well as demonstrating how effective Faith School Linking is, I’m also excited to expand my knowledge of some of the themes that 3FF engages with, including questions of identity and interfaith understanding. It should be an interesting couple of years!

Why did you want to become involved with 3FF?

My background is in international peacebuilding, but I’m also interested in initiatives that aim to build relationships at a local level to create social change. I knew of 3FF’s schools work through friends and family who teach in London, so when I heard that 3FF wanted a researcher to work with their team I jumped at the chance.

What are you looking forward to the most?

Starting my fieldwork! I can’t wait for this upcoming academic year. Not only will I experience 3FF’s teacher training, but I’ll be visiting some of the schools where 3FF makes a difference. I also look forward to sharing my work with others and I’m lucky enough to be presenting my research at the British Association for the Study of Religion’s Annual Conference in Chester this September.

What did you do before starting your PhD?

My academic background is quite mixed. I have an undergraduate degree in Theology and Religious Studies plus an MSc in Global Governance and Ethics. Although the disciplines are different, I focused on the theme of faith-based peacebuilding in both of my degrees. After leaving uni in 2013, I worked with an international peacebuilding charity called Concordis International as their Fundraising and Communications Manager. I was there for three years but I missed being a student!

Give us a fun fact about yourself!

I live on a working farm. It’s arable, so there are plenty of crops, but I’m hoping to add some pet chickens and goats soon!
