We are pleased to announce that we have received a generous grant of £50,000 from the Dulverton Trust towards our ParliaMentors leadership programme.

Established in 1949, the Dulverton Trust is a family foundation that has since its inception made grants totalling over £95 million, which have provided much-needed support to thousands of charities. Its current areas of funding include youth opportunities, conservation, peace, and humanitarian support among other interests.

Their funding will enable 100 young people to be recruited onto ParliaMentors between 2020 and 2022 from 4 regional centres (North-West, Nottingham, the Midlands and London). They will be placed into groups of 5 with each group member coming from different faith, belief, and political backgrounds. Each group will be mentored by an MP during a planned year of activity and learning which includes project development, leadership, public speaking, interfaith and dialogue training.

Each group will also be supported to deliver a Social Action Project. For the last 5 years we have supported participants to design and delivery 44 Social Action Projects reaching over 8500 people.

ParliaMentors works with emerging young leaders to challenge ideas and notions of leadership. The programme explores ideas of interfaith dialogue, youth leadership, and social change, and involves mentoring from Members of Parliament and social action project delivery.

Here is what one former ParliaMentor had to say:

“ParliaMentors was really important for me to unlock doors into the world of politics. I developed vital skills and was exposed to networks that gave me a solid foundation to kick start my career. Having been elected as a Councillor, I’m extra mindful about ensuring that I consider the needs and interests of all sections of our society to build a future which is more respectful and understanding of different beliefs.”

We are grateful to the Dulverton Trust for their support and generosity and look forward to welcoming our next cohort of future leaders.
